Do you love telling stories? So do we, and so does Roopa Pai, who wrote India’s first fantasy adventure book for kids. Roopa has always loved telling stories and sharing them with the world. So it’s no surprise that she is one of India’s best-loved authors.
Roopa started writing professionally when she was still in college. She worked as a journalist before settling into her career as a children’s book author. She has lived in many cities across India and has even lived abroad for awhile. Roopa’s time in London gave birth to her love of heritage and history walks and tours.
Once she returned to Bangalore (her favourite city!) she found herself wondering how to celebrate the city’s heritage and beauty. Her passion for storytelling and history combined led to the founding of BangaloreWalks, a walking tour company that gives visitors and locals a taste of Bangalore’s rich history.
A proud Kannadiga, she also helps organise ‘Exploriences’ for school children to help them explore and experience their city in an all new way. She believes that instead of just teaching children about monuments and places they may never visit, we should also give importance to what surrounds them in their own city.
Her fascination with history also influences her writing as does her experience studying computer science. Her heroes and heroines are usually logical and analytical thinkers! Roopa believes in the power of education and that children need to be challenged and stimulated. She thinks that adults should also be passengers on the quest for knowledge with their kids. We couldn’t agree more!
